CANNES (Hollywood Reporter) - Portugal's most famous singer will soon be immortalized on film. Fado-singing legend Amalia Rodrigues, who died nine years ago at the age of 79, will be the subject of "Amalia," starring 29-year-old stage actress Sandra Barata Belo. The film will be directed by Carlos Coelho da Silva. The $5 million film -- large by Portuguese standards -- will follow Rodrigues' transformation from poverty-stricken youth to national treasure and international star. It should be completed by the end of this year, and available for distribution in early 2009. Reuters/Hollywood Reporter
