| Tenacious D are the ultimate in acquired taste. To their critics, they're two idiots who write deeply stupid songs and perform them badly. To their fans, they're the greatest comedy band since Spinal Tap (maybe we do get carried away sometimes...)-This film will delight the converted and disgust the heathens, It's arguably the weirdest, and funniest music video ever made, The tone is set in an opening sequence in which every line is hilariously sung in the style of oh-so-many Heavy Metal bands, gleeful irreverence in every lyric, From there on it just gets weirder and more wonderful, from dream sequences involving Yetis to a speech proudly exclaiming the virtues of Satan, nothing is too out-there, With some brilliant history.-mocking animation inserts that rival the Pythons (A lute is seen to play an electric guitar solo) and a delightful sense of the cod-mythology of rock (involving some very funny cameos) .This movie is the greatest spoof of Metal since This is Spinal Tap, Whilst never always in that class, The Pick of Destiny resists temptation to fully mock rock. This is a film parodying metal made by rock obsessives which means this is as much tribute as mockery. For fans, it's bliss. For haters, it's stupid and offensive. In truth it's an bit of both-8/10 |
