It has been sighted 42,000 times in 68 countries. A creature of myth and legend known by several names; Yeti, Sasquatch and the infamous Bigfoot! We've hunted it for years, but what happens when it decides to hunt us? "Abominable" centers on a man recovering from a mountain climbing accident, trapped in a remote cabin in the woods, who sees the legendary beast, and must convince someone to believe him, before the monster goes on a bloody rampage. |

Oscar worthy? God no. But for what it is I thought this movie surpassed all expectation.
The cast has several great veteran actors and everyone did a good job. Combs, Henrickson, and the principal from The Breakfast Club, what more could you want? The only bad acting I thought was the farmer's wife from the opening scene. The lead actor - I remember him from Seinfeld I think (Lloyd Brawn?) - does a terrific job. He does a good Jimmy Stewart. I actually cared about the guy. Not your typical horror movie hero.
Writing was above average and direction was fantastic. Scenes actually have a beginning, middle, and end. You've got lots of slow shots instead of the nauseating MTV jump-cut- every-second style that you usually see with all horror films today in order to hide the fact that there is no story. There are several memorable shots. I'm interested in seeing this writer/ director's future films once he gets a bigger budget and is allowed to work on something other than direct-to-video/Sci-Fi Channel moves.
The premise was original. Borrowed all the right things from Rear Window. Brilliant move to mix Rear Window w/a creature feature. I thought the music was terrific. Some people have complained about the creature but I thought it was well done. It's screen time was wisely kept to a minimum for the 1st half of the film but when we see it I thought it was pretty freaky looking. For a guy in a suit with an animatronic face it was very good. The deaths were excellent. Great gore. Good effects. Even the slow sappy take-a-break-from-the-terror scenes, aka character moments, are handled well.
You got some nudity on the DVD with a shower scene and a great jump scare that follows it. It's not a great movie but it is a GOOD one. Compared to all the other dredge out there this one at least made an effort in all facets of its production and it shows in the finished product. Highly recommended! Not your typical Sci-Fi Channel movie. I know its easy to make fun of Sci-Fi movies but if you watch this one and give it a chance I think you'll find you'll be pleasantly surprise by it. I truly enjoyed watching the film and for me that's the bottom line when it comes to recommending it to others. |

| Abominable is about a group of people who are attacked by a snowman minus the snow. Big Foot , sasquatch, whatever. A group of young girls trying to have some fun away from home, a group of hunters that turn into the hunted, a paraplegic and his psychopathic attendant, all get in on the act. Nothing really new as far as plot or dialog here, but nothing really bad either. Some reasonably good special effects with the monster, some anthropological realism, and some nice scenery are all part of the show. The seasoned cast has something to contribute to this and they strengthen the delivery. Pretty good entertainment if you don't have much else to do. |
